Rock has always played an important role in society. It has been used as a form of expression by the youth around the globe, as well as a mode of resistance against the oppression from governments and military dictatorships. This genre has impacted the sociopolitical landscape world wide in more ways than we can imagine.

This style originated in the South of the United States during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, through various influences of traditional African musical merged with European instrumentation. It evolved from earlier genres such as jazz, rhythm and blues, gospel and country music.
